Who is Floréal Villanova?

Floréal Villanova has worked in solar since 2010. He spent 7 years in France as a technical sales representative on residential, commercial and agricultural projects, then settled in Montreal in 2018 after a stint in Austin, Texas. In 2021, he co-founded Solutions Otonomi, which develops digital tools for solar installers.

Why build software for solar installers?

Sizing a project, especially off-grid, takes a lot of expertise and time, and Quebec's industry faces a labour shortage. Digital tools automate calculations and lead management so teams can focus on the projects themselves.

What does Otonomi DX do?

Otonomi DX is a white-label solar calculator that installers embed on their website. The customer fills out a simple form (roof, orientation, tilt, needs) and the installer receives pre-calculated leads in their dashboard, for grid-tied, off-grid, hybrid or storage-only projects.

What advice would you give someone starting a career in solar?

Stay humble, build your network and don't hesitate to ask for help, especially since direct current can be dangerous. Get trained, learn from reliable sources and contact your provincial solar association to find out the local requirements.
